Where the real power lies Nov. 4, 2012
RR got his hooks into our new writer even before I had the
chance to warn him.
No doubt, she steered the writer into RR’s clutches.
Somehow, at the same time, she became PR for the Virgin
Mayor, RR became the mayor’s aide.
It’s an old routine the Mob Man from Secaucus used to do whenever
he got one of his “virgin mayors” elsewhere in the state, getting himself as
close to the center of power, making himself indispensable, and making certain everything
had to flow through him to get to the mayor.
The problem is, this Virgin Mayor isn’t the real center of
power in this town. He has always been a trojan horse for that pack of prairie dogs
that gravitated to his town when they saw him was on the road to victory, and
over the last year, slowly took the reins of power, leaving the Virgin Mayor as
largely a figure head.
This pack is made up of Joey D, the real PR Guy, the
Insurance Man from Newark, the Local Developer and a few lesser vultures, who
control the various departments, some as commissioners, some as pulling the
strings of commissioners.
If there is a real power in that town, it is Joey D, who
came in last minute in the Virgin Mayor’s campaign in time to declare victory, then
began to consolidate power and steer town business to his developer brother.
She and RR appear to have positioned themselves to become
part of the power elite by pulling the Virgin Mayor’s strings, only they really
have a different kind of wolf by the tail, someone unpredictable, who has said
and will say stupid things that alienate him with the powerful people who
helped get him elected – such as the congressman, the small man and the neighboring
mayor.
She and RR did a lot of damage tot their own cause when attempting
to use us to go after the neighboring mayor and the congressman, putting
themselves in the same crosshairs as the Virgin Mayor.
The Virgin Mayor is a little like King Lear, presuming to have
power he no longer has, and by siding with him, she and RR may well be as they
say, barking up the wrong tree.
Having failed to control us from inside our office through
her, RR seems to hope he can use her to influence the new reporter to do some
of the same dirty work she was doing for him prior to her departure.
While RR is the kind of snake that will find a new rock to
crawl under, the same can’t be said for her. She’s too ambitious to remain too
long on a sinking ship, and while she may pretend like she is the Virgin Mayor’s
ally, as soon as she realizes he’s not going to take her anywhere, she will
likely jump ship for someone who will – most likely the man with the real power,
Joey D.
