Basking in the glow of good feelings. Oct. 20, 2012
I’m having a hard time reading the owner’s mood swings now
that she has left the company.
I have a lot of theories, but no real information. Even the
company gossips are scratching their heads, especially over the fact that he paid
for her parting party.
He’s been acting strangely for months, but not nearly as
strange as after she announced her resignation. It’s almost as if the whole
company is drunk or high, and I’m confused as to how she could have such an
impact on so many when almost nobody before her had such an effect, even the
legendary writers from the golden days who have moved onto major publications
elsewhere.
I’m stunned that the Little Man, who frequently speaks with
the owners and is a huge source of advertising, said nothing about her to
either of them, as if he too feels the need to protect her and allow her to
move on without scandal.
As I said before, her send off party felt (according to the
office gossip) like a wake, where everybody was trying to put on a happy face,
assuming she was actually going on to a bigger and better opportunity. She alone knew better. Yet, she must have felt gratified by the
attention, even if it came too late. But I suspect she kept up with the charade
out of fear that if she did not “do the right thing,” the Little Man might be
forced to have that long talk with the owners about what really went on behind
the scenes. Maybe she’s scared I might say something, when I’ve vowed not to.
It is best like this, her going off on her own steam,
letting her get this last bit of glory, and bask in the glow of good feelings.
I don’t know where she’ll end up, but I’m sure she’ll land on her feet – she always
has.
